Ah the classics!  Clark Gable.  Greta Garbo. Mae West.  Bogie.  Where would we be without the movies?
Moving pictures came on the scene well over a hundred years ago, but when did they start calling them movies?
The term appears rather abruptly in print in 1911…try as I might, no mentions were found in 1910, though I expect the term might have been in spoken use by them.
First Mention goes, sort of, to President Taft, of all people, as seen in this Washington Post article from August 1, 1911.

Not the easiest image to read, I know, but I hope you noticed the lightly highlighted phrase near the end, where the word movies makes its first appearance in print.
