Larry Craig
1961
Senator Larry Craig (R-ID) is in the news quite a bit these days. I'm sure he wishes that were not the case...or at least that the subject matter was something a bit more dignified. Be that as it may, it raises the question (to me, anyway), of when Senator Craig first appeared in the news. It turns out that his FirstMention was more or less on his 16th birthday. The July 26, 1961 Ironwood Globe, in Minnesota, carried a picture of the "Pilgrimage for Youth Tour", a collection of 36 boys and girls on a United Nations "Pilgrimage for Youth", directed by one Marvin Emery of Sandpoint, Idaho and Jerry Keck of Jerome, Idaho. Thirteen members of the group were from Idaho, including a teen-aged Larry Craig, who was feted with a birthday song. Please enable JavaScript to view this page content properly.
