The King made his first studio recording in 1953 when he was 18 years old, and a few more recordings in 1954. 
 
But try as I might, I could find no FirstMention of Elvis Presley earlier than this April 12, 1955 ad in the Abilene (Texas) Reporter-News for what looks to be a high school sock-hop.
 
 
 

'Scotty and Bill' is undoubtedly a reference to Scotty Moore and Bill Black, legendary studio musicians and Elvis' back-up early in his career.  Onie Wheeler is a well-known country and rockabilly musician.
