Condoleezza Rice

1981

Condoleezza Rice.  Say it with me now, con-do-leez-za-rice

Whatever you think of her politics, you gotta love that name.  And she's so...so...

But I digress.

Ms. Rice has something of an elusive FirstMention.  The first appearance of her name in print may well have been her dissertation, a 373-page tome with the fetching title, The politics of client command: party-military relations in Czechoslovakia : 1948-1975, which was published in 1981 at the University of Denver

Ms. Rice's first post-university publication appeared soon after, in the January-February 1982 issue of Air University Review. and covered an equally fascinating topic, The Problem of Military Elite Cohesion in Eastern Europe: the case of Czechoslovakia.

Then, on March 22, 1984, she makes her first newspaper appearance (that I can find...I suspect there are earlier ones) in the Los Angeles Times.

And the world hasn't been the same since.
